Ever since a near-death-experience on the operating table, seventeen-year-old Arianne Wilson can see dead people. Just as she’s learned to accept her new-found talents, she discovers that the boy she’s had a crush on since freshman year, Niko Clark, is a Reaper.

At last they have something in common, but that doesn’t mean life is getting any easier. All while facing merciless bullying from the most powerful girl in school, Arianne’s world is turned upside down after Niko accidentally reaps the soul of someone she loves. This sends them both into a spiral that threatens to end Arianne’s life. But will Niko break his own Reaper’s code to save her? And what would the consequences be if he did?

For the last few months I have heard a lot about teenage reapers, but so far none of the titles had captured my attention, so when I found out that an author I had previously enjoyed reading was giving a copy of her book free in exchange for a review I decided to give the reapers a chance.

The Pros:

-Niko: A bit clueless at times but he was a nice male lead overall but I loved how respectful he was with Arianne especially.

-Ben and Ari’s friendship, it was a very nice and healthy one that proves that a boy and a girl can be just friends.

-I liked this books portrayal of death

-The Dual points of view

-Ari's Sister

The Cons

-Ari, unlike Niko I didn’t like her very much, not sure why I just couldn’t connect with her.

-The instalove on Nikos’ side. Ari admitted to having a crush on him since freshman year while Niko suddenly realized Ari existed and could no longer live without her.

-How the situation between Darla and Arianne was handled.

All things considered this book was a very nice read and a great way to start my teenage reaper collection.

Final Rating:
