Waiting on Wednesday (35)

Publicado por Lina Jiménez en 7:56 0 comentarios

Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spinethat spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week is:

Title: Maid of Deception
Series: Maids of Honor #2
Author:Jennifer Mc Gowan
Expected Release Date: August 26th 2014

Beatrice Knowles is a Maid of Honor, one of Queen Elizabeth I’s secret protectors. Known for her uncanny ability to manipulate men’s hearts, Beatrice has proven herself to be a valuable asset in the Queen’s court—or so she thinks. It has been three weeks since the Maids thwarted a plot to overthrow the Queen, and Beatrice is preparing to wed her betrothed, Lord Cavanaugh. However, her plans come to a crashing halt as rumors of a brewing Scottish rebellion spread among the court.

Beatrice’s new assignment is to infiltrate the visiting Scottish delegation using her subtle arts in persuasion. The mission seems simple enough, until the Queen pairs Beatrice with the worst of the lot—Alasdair MacLeod. Beatrice cannot help but think that the Queen is purposefully setting her up for failure. But Alasdair could be the key to unlocking the truth about the rebellion….and her own heart. Caught in a web of ever-more-twisting lies, Beatrice must rise up among the Maids of Honor and prove what she’s known all along: In a court filled with deception and danger, love may be the deadliest weapon of all

When I first discovered this series I was worried that it would be a copy of R. L. LaFever's His Fair Assassin but it is nothing like it and it's also an excellent series and I'm excited for the next book.

Shattered by Teri Terry Review

Publicado por Lina Jiménez en 8:30 0 comentarios
Title: Shattered
Series: Slated#3
Author:Teri Terry
Pages: 416
Published: March 6th 2014
Publisher: Orchard Books

Kyla's memory was erased,
her personality wiped blank,
her memories lost for ever.

Or so she thought.

After the shocking events of SLATED and FRACTURED, we return to Kyla's oppressive world as she tries to make sense of her lfe and everything around her.

Set in a disturbing near-future world, this is the conclusion to an engrossing, fast-paced trilogy that establishes Teri Terry as a master thriller writer.

Book 3 in the acclaimed SLATED trilogy.

So this is one of the best series ending that I’ve read so far, yes it totally broke my heart but unlike many endings that did the same, the heartbreak made sense in this book.

Pros:

-Kayla has been amazing through the series; she started as a scared girl with no memories and slowly became a young woman that is doing anything she can to take down a corrupt system. Like any human Kayla, Riley Hope or whatever you want to call her had her ups and downs but I felt she always acted maturely considering how her whole life had been.

-Aiden was a character that I didn’t care about not because he was bad or anything he just didn’t capture my interest however in Shattered he really gained my respect especially concerning his feelings for Kayla he told her how he felt but he never did anything because he knew she didn’t see him that way.

-I loved how the book ended, things weren’t magically perfect in the end but they were getting better and perhaps the most important thing was that Kayla got closure.

Cons:

-Ben: He was never my favorite character I actually found him to be very bland but I hated him in this book for all the things he did for all the things he did especially the way he used Kayla.

Overall I was very satisfied with the way the series ended; I couldn’t ask more from this amazing author.

My pick this week is:

Title: Midnight Thief
Series: Midnight Thief #1
Author: Livia Blackburne
Expected Publication: July 8th 2014

Growing up on Forge’s streets has taught Kyra how to stretch a coin. And when that’s not enough, her uncanny ability to scale walls and bypass guards helps her take what she needs.

But when the leader of the Assassins Guild offers Kyra a lucrative job, she hesitates. She knows how to get by on her own, and she’s not sure she wants to play by his rules. But he’s persistent—and darkly attractive—and Kyra can’t quite resist his pull.

Tristam of Brancel is a young Palace knight on a mission. After his best friend is brutally murdered by Demon Riders, a clan of vicious warriors who ride bloodthirsty wildcats, Tristam vows to take them down. But as his investigation deepens, he finds his efforts thwarted by a talented thief, one who sneaks past Palace defenses with uncanny ease.

When a fateful raid throws Kyra and Tristam together, the two enemies realize that their best chance at survival—and vengeance—might be to join forces. And as their loyalties are tested to the breaking point, they learn a startling secret about Kyra’s past that threatens to reshape both their lives.

Many of my fovorite series ended this year so I've been loooking for new ones and Midnight Thief looks interesting.

My pick this week is:

Title: Find me where the water ends
Series: So Close To You #3
Author: Rachel Carter
Pages:352
Expected Publication: July 1st 2014

Lydia has been trained into a person she might have once feared: focused, fierce, deadly. Although she never wanted the life of a Montauk Project recruit, the Project has captured someone she loves-someone she'll do anything to save.

Then Lydia glimpses a world in which the Montauk Project never existed. The Project has taken so much from Lydia already, but she knows that she will sacrifice everything to make her vision of a world without the Project a reality.

Publishers Weekly said that "readers will be hooked" by Rachel Carter's plot-twisting So Close to You series. The conspiracy theories, romance, and compelling "what if?" questions build to a satisfying series end, making Find Me Where the Water Ends the perfect fit for the teen fans of light science fiction like The Time Traveler's Wife.

I love time travel and this has been one onf my favorite series so far and I can't wait to see how it ends.
