I would most likely choose Under The Never Sky by Veronica Roth, this book cemented my love for young adult books and was also the book that helped me discover Goodreads.

This book for some reason didn’t work for me; it really never captured my attention, I didn’t really like the characters.

What I liked:

-World building: unlike many dystopias I’ve read this book actually explains why and what things happened to the world as we knew it. The concept of a village runs by women and with men only used as breeders was a very good idea.

-Mona: she is the leader of the village which she rules with an iron fist; as far as oppressive leaders go she is a pretty well written one.

What I didn’t like

-The use of biblical passages: this really didn’t work for me I really think the book didn’t need them.

-Kate being very naïve at times. You live in a village where absolute obedience is expected yet she thinks her leader is going to change her profession just because Kate wants her to.

-I don’t really think this book was for young adult even if the characters were 16, I would recommend it to an older audience.

I’m willing to give Breeder the benefit of the doubt and call it one of those books you have to be in a certain mood to enjoy.

Top Ten Books that made me cry

This week was hard for me because I'm not a person that cries often but these are the books that even if they didn't make me cry theydid make me feel awful and in need of one of my mom's hugs.

1) If you find me by Emily Murdoch

I love how this books showcases how unconditional family love can be.

2)Escape from Eden by Elisa Nader

Anything that deals with human sex traffic will always give me chills.

3)A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

This book taught me a lot about dealing with my emotions.

4)Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

It's awful when you see a character realize too late how blessed they were.

5)Diary of Anne Frank

It frustrates me to know she died so close to being liberated; it's just not fair.

6)The Count of Montecristo

Edmond Dantes was my first book boyfriend and I hate that he had to go through so many things.

Female authors vs Male authors

Hello everyone, I hope your weekend was better than mine and I hope this week will be amazing!

So I’m an aide in my brother’s school reading program “Building Readers” my job there is basically being a human version of Goodreads; so last week I received an email from a mother complaining that  her daughter has not read any books by a female author and that we should remedy this. The girl’s teacher answered that in this program the students choose what they want to read depending of the week’s theme or if they are participating in certain activities and that the author’s sex is never taken in consideration.

After this email was received we asked the students if they cared wether the person writing a book was a boy or a girl and all the students answered that it had nothing to do with it and one of them asked what someone’s gender had to do with liking a book or not.

I have to admit that this made me wonder about how I pick my books. I never put many thoughts about who wrote what book unless they are one of my favorite authors, 99.99999999% of the time the author has no influence on weather I read a book or not most of the time I decide based on the blurb or the cover; after that if I enjoyed the book then and only then will I look for more books about this author and maybe I will look for their social media sites, but never have I ever chosen a book thinking: oh this book was written by a woman I have to buy it!

So no I really don’t care if you are male, female or neutral when I’m buying your book, your gender will never cross my mind. The conclusion I got from this whole situation was that it’s perfectly all right to read more books by men that by women and that it’s also perfectly fine with reading more books written by women than books written by men; what is not ok is NOT reading books because they were written by women or NOT reading books because they were written by men
