Top Ten Tuesday (38)

Publicado por Lina Jiménez en 19:30 2 comentarios

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at The Broke and The Bookish.  Each week a new top ten list is posted, and to participate all you have to do is fill in YOUR top ten for the list.

This week is Top Ten Characters I would Want On My Lunch Table

1) Fred and George Weasly

(Because in my mind nothing ever happened to Fred) I can just imagine all the hilarious things these two would come up with.

2)Roar from Under The Never Sky

Since he is an Aud in the books I think he would have an excellent taste in music and would be that friend that is always discovering new bands and showing them to you.

3)Wren from Fangirl

I like reading fan fiction, so Wren would be the friend I discussed fics with.

4)Anne Shirley

I always loved the vibe I got when I read her books so as a believer that you should surround yourself with positive people I would ask her to sit with me.

5)Sidney Sage

She's smart, loyal, responsible and the type of friend that would not let me lose track of my academic schedule.

6)Adrian Ivashkov

I honestly can't picture a scenario where Adrian doesn't sit in the same table as Sidney but I would also like his company.

7)Massie Block

Although I like to read I'm also a very vain person so I need someone to understand why I love picking out my clothes or why I get excited over a dress.

8)Rob stark

My boyfriend sometimes has to sit in the same table as me.

9)The Darkling

He would probably that friend that you like for some reason but your parents would love for you to stop being friends with.

10)My best friend Elena

Although she isn't a fictional character I can't think a universe that wouldn't have her eating lunch with me and she has inspired a character or two when have written something.

Monday Book Recommendations (9)

Publicado por Lina Jiménez en 22:30 0 comentarios

Monday is the day I choose what new books I’m going to start reading but I have so many books in my To Read Pile that sometimes it’s hard to choose so I have decided that on Monday mornings I’ll recommend my some of favorite books.

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

I'm very exctited for this week's rec because if I think about it this is my favorite book hands down.  The thing that makes me love this book so much is the fact that it has a little bit of everything: Amazing characters, intrigue, and an excellent revenge plan.
If you decide to give it a chaqnce I would recommend you take your time with this book since it's a bit long and it has many notes that you need to read if you aren't familiar with the period the story take place in.

Free to Fall by Lauren Miller

Title: Frr To Fall
Author: Lauren Miller
Pages:469
Publisher: Harper Teen

What if there was an app that told you what song to listen to, what coffee to order, who to date, even what to do with your life—an app that could ensure your complete and utter happiness?

What if you never had to fail or make a wrong choice?

What if you never had to fall?

Fast-forward to a time when Apple and Google have been replaced by Gnosis, a monolith corporation that has developed the most life-changing technology to ever hit the market: Lux, an app that flawlessly optimizes decision making for the best personal results.

Just like everyone else, sixteen-year-old Rory Vaughn knows the key to a happy, healthy life is following what Lux recommends. When she’s accepted to the elite boarding school Theden Academy, her future happiness seems all the more assured. But once on campus, something feels wrong beneath the polished surface of her prestigious dream school.

Then she meets North, a handsome townie who doesn’t use Lux, and begins to fall for him and his outsider way of life. Soon, Rory is going against Lux’s recommendations, listening instead to the inner voice that everyone has been taught to ignore — a choice that leads her to uncover a truth neither she nor the world ever saw coming.

Although the premise of everyone being dependant on an app, something that is quite real, a girl in my class had an anxiety attack because her Instagram app wasn’t working: so yeah I could believe that a world where people can’t live without a certain phone.

My problem with the book was the execution of the plot. Our main character Rory loves her Gemini at first and doesn’t understand why her best friend doesn’t but as soon as a cute guy tells her that the same thing then he must be right. You don’t need a love interest to start questioning things especially if said guy is creepy enough to put a camera and a tracker on you.

Another pet peeve of mine is that authors need to make the main character special somehow, in this case Rory was a Hepta, and in other words she is a perfect student that will shine bright with no effort in her school. A person doesn’t need special abilities or to be different from everyone else to be interesting.

I think that this is a book for people who are just discovering the Dystopian genre since it's not too log and is a standalone novel.

What Character Would I trade Places With

I would trade places with a random Hogwart student, I wouldn't want Harry's responsibilities so I would preffer (according to Pottermore) to be a Slytherin student.

Thursday Thoughts (3)

Publicado por Lina Jiménez en 22:21 2 comentarios

Thursday Thoughts is an original, weekly meme created by Ok, Let's Read. The idea for this feature was brought about by several conversations I've had with bookish friends in my daily life. I noticed that not everyone has the same mindset about certain aspects of reading, books, and everything bookish and wanted to not only share my own opinions on things, but hear other people's feelings on topics that we might not feel the same way about.

Today I'm sharing my thoughts on The Power

of Social Media.

I think social media has been an amazing tool for authors; it helps them communicate faster with their reader, share news and find out what people think about their work but at the same time it can be hard for readers because sadly some authors can’t take criticism and attack readers.
I personally like seeing what authors tweet because they’ll post updates, giveaways, promote other authors and they can answer questions and this was something you couldn’t do before.

Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week is:

Title: Sparkes Rise
Series: The Darkest Minds #2.5
Author: Alexandra Bracken
Pages: 110
Expected Publication Date: September 2nd 2014
Publisher: Disney Hyperion

Don’t miss the thrilling novella that connects the last two novels in the New York Times best-selling Darkest Mindstrilogy.

Sam didn’t think things could get worse at Thurmond rehabilitation camp. Then the Reds arrive. Everyone assumed the kids with firepower had been killed years ago. Instead they were taken away, brainwashed, and returned as terrifyingly effective guards. To her horror, Sam recognizes one of them: Lucas, the one spark of light in Sam’s dark childhood. Lucas has a deadly secret–he beat the brutal training that turned his fellow Reds into mindless drones. When Sam defends herself against an attack by a vile PSF guard and faces a harrowing punishment, Lucas must risk his everything to save her.

Includes a bonus preview chapter from the final Darkest Minds novel, In the Afterlight.

I just found out about this on Monday! I need this book yesterday, anything to know more about the camps
